Group Novel Third Fifth

   It shocked me that Katnis is going to be in another Hunger Games. From what I read the capital has promised at least one thing to the winning tributes of the Hunger Games. It does not seem fair that they have already been through enough torment once to have to experience it again would be excruciating and cruel. This makes me believe that President Snow has been playing games with Peeta and Katnis the whole time. I feel this what because he went through all the hassle of planning a wedding for them, getting dresses designed and taking votes on what dress Katnis will wear. It seems like the capital is just using them as a spectacle for the rest of the people in the capital and not viewing them as people. It also seems weird that after the whole encounter with Twill and Bonnie Katnis does not look upon it much as if it just has been wiped from her mind. I thought the meeting of Twill and Bonnie would be a whole lot more significant to the story than what it was. With the two women it does add to the plot that uprisings have begun in some off the districts but were kept secret. The idea behind district seems really far fetch but I can see Katnis somehow ending up there. Overall I did enjoy this section of the book more. In this section the action has risen and the suspense has become great. I am more happy to read on in the book after this point.

Group Novel Second Fifth

     As I was reading I noticed how the book has been very descriptive and also slow. The book for the most part has been lacking excitement. When I read the book just as I think there will be something thrilling in the up coming pages it dies down and goes back to being mellow. It seems really rebellious to me that Peeta and Katnis are set to marry while they act in love just to fool the capital. The fact the capital is supposed to be high and mighty is kind of a joke because Peeta and Katnis have managed to pull one over on them. The capital seems like something that you cannot escape from, Its like being in prison unable to leave. The book had a small amount of action in it when they all traveled into the square and witnessed Gale getting a whipping. When Katnis jumps in and tries to save him it seem like a very stupid move on her part for stopping it with her face. When Katnis saved Gale it showed that she cared about him deeply but it risked exposing them. It seemed like caring more for him than just a cousin when she jumped in front of the whip unthinkingly. This incident also added to my thought of Panem being a cruel place where everyone is treated as prisoners of war. The speak of uprisings that Katnis is having worry me because she does not seem like a strong enough character to take down the whole capital, so it makes me feel as if she will end up in danger.

#19 Group Novel First Fifth

    The first fifth of the novel started out very slow and I had difficulties following the story. For me not having read the first hunger games novel I did not understand all the references back to the first book, for example the berries. I had to search some things about the book on the internet so I could understand the little things in the book. I am starting to understand the characters and there mind set for example Katniss and her views on the hunger games of her describing it helped me understand what she went through in the first book. The way their country is set up kept reminding me of a prison because they are caged in boundaries and not allowed to escape it by even going into the woods. The book has a very confined feeling to it so far. When Katniss spoke with president snow about possible uprisings it seemed like it was foreshadowing or hinting that all hell might break loose soon. Overall I find even though I had not read the first book it is becoming easier to understand the story line as I read on.

     In this chapter Jacks true colours begin to show as he gets more violent. Jack always talks about hunting and killing boars but I feel as he took the violence to another level this time. When the boys are acting out how they hunted the boar on Robert they got out of hand and began to actually hurt Robert. After Robert was beaten Jack made a suggestion that they should no longer act out hunting on one of them and use a little'un. To suggest using a little'un seems very wrong to me because they are so young and inicent and harming them is beyond cruel. I cannot tell if jack is just joking about his remark or he just has a physcotic mind but either way Jack is begining to become a greater threat to the boys living on the island.

       In this chapter Jack decides to leave the tribe. I am happy with Jacks decision to leave because all he does is caue conflict between the others on the island. Jack has a very smug attitude that im tired of always getting in the way of what really matters on the island like getting saved. With Jack out of the tribe I feel like Ralphs tribe can accomplish the tasks that are needed the most. Jacks tribe is savage and out of control where as Ralphs tribe is calm and orderly it has drawn more people to Jack. Jack named himself the chief of his tried showing yet again he is a very narcissistic person. At this point I am fed up with Jacks constant striving for power and focus on what really matters.

    In this chapter the fear really starts to set in amougnst the boys. The boys are getting jumpy and fearful like young children do after lights go out. When Sam and Eric were tending the fire and saw one little shadow of the parachutist and sprinted off as fast as they could. When Sam and Eric did this it reminded me off when I was five and I heard a sound in my I would get up without thinking and run to the safety of others. Everyone on the island is on edge of the unknown of the new setting that is the island. I do understand why the boys could be getting frightened easily because If I did not know what was around me at all time I would be nervous aswell.

      The boys do not seem to understand how to survive on an island. They do not realize that all these chores and duties are nessesary for their survival. Most of the boys have a abandoned their duties like getting water, work on the huts, and maintain the signal fire, these chores are vital to surving on the island yet most dont care. It was also brought up that a little'un thought the beastie rises out of the ocean at night while everyone is sleeping this makes me think that they dont really understand much aboiut the beastie. The thought on the beastie are very scrambled, and confused because some characters think the beastie is from the forest, others think it is from the ocean. I feel like the boys have just imagined the beastie because they are scared without adults there to monitor them, so they have so much built up fear they have made stories without someone to keep them rational.

  In this chapter when Jack started his new tribe I found it to be irritating. Jack is power crazed which does not put him in a good state of mind to run a new tribe and be in command. It seems like only Piggy and Ralph are the only ones who still focus on trying to be rescued by building a signal, while the others priorities are to make new tribes, start confict, play and hunt. It seems to me that the reality of being stranded on and island with a slim chance of being rescued has set in on the boys.

   In chapter seven of Lord of the Flies the boys begin to become more savage than in other chapters. In this chapter the boys are excited about their hunt and decide to act it out amoungst themselves which would normally be fine but they took it too far. The boys began to go over board and hurt Robert who at the time was pretending to be the pig in the scene he managed to drag himself away before they would do more damage. I found it frustrating that they set out to hunt the beast into the night that they believed to be terrorizing their tribe at night time. If the beast was thought to attack why would they leave there weakest links there to defend it on their own, and try to go off and find the beast by themselves.

  In this chapter it really got me thinking about the beastie. I can't tell yet if the beastie is going to be a part of the young kids imagination or an actual beast stalking the boys around the island. I dislike how in the book Piggy is constantly being walked on by the other boys. They other boys used Piggy for his glasses to start a fire but by the way they took them was by force without asking him. Piggy isn't treated as well as he should be, because he is an impotant member on the island Piggy is very smart which is useful on the island. The island still seems very out of order and savage because everybody does what they won't and doesn't respect the island rules.

  When ever someone does something good I think it is for their personal satisfaction. when people do something good they will usually get some reconition, people crave getting this. When you see someone who needs it is easy to feel sympathtic and the need to help will kick in. If you do something nice for someone you will be known is more of a good person and others will be more likely to help you out when you need it. Guilt also plays a big role in doing good deads because when you see someone in need of help and ingnore it you will often be thinking about what you could have done later and wishing you could go back and change the event. People like attention and doing good things is a way to get positive attention.

   To me bullying comes from the conflicts between people. Bullying still happens because people let it happen everyday. It is able to happen because people don't know how to handle it. If you are being bullied, if you tell someone it can only help abit, if you want it to stop you have to stand up for yourself. I think there is a difference between bullying in boys and girls. When boys bully other people it is more commonly physical and in girls it is more emotional. It is stereotypical to assume that boys don't use emotional bullying and girls don't use physical because they both do. People will always knock others down because there is some people who enjoy doing it and others who let this happen.

  The story of Lord of the Flies so far isn't that intresting to me. The first chaper was kinda boring but nessesary to intoduce the characters. The beggining of the book starts to set the mood and setting for what the book is going to be. It has been iching at me that the real name of Piggy wasn't mentioned in the first chapter of the book. In this chapter it seems like the boys are not worried about being trapped on the island and are taking it as more of a vacation than the disaster it really is.

 For my memoir I chose to do it on my trip to Quebec. I chose to do this because I am not one to leave far from home and it was the farthest I have went other then florida when I three. Since I was three when I last somewhere it wasn't very memerable for me. Being in the lauretion mountain range was something I had never seen before so it was exciting to me. This is always going to stand out as a memerable moment in my life so I thought it was perfect for my memoir.

one abiding memory from your Engish class of last year.....

 

  One abiding memory I have from taking grade nine english is reading cue for treason. I remember being assigned a chapter to read for the next day and putting it off until the last minute to do the reading. When I would start reading the book my eyes would feel heavy and I would slowely start falling asleep. I had trouble keeping up with the reading because the book did not intrest me, not one bit at all. This was probably the hardest unit in english class because I had trouble getting my self to read the book. I don't remember much about grade nine english but I do remember this book.
